SASSY SPRAY -- Post Chop-Shop

Following in the footsteps of many of my earlier stencils, Sassy Spray, one of my newest 6" x 6" stencils, has been to the chop-shop.

This time, the alterations weren't major.  I merely customized the edges, using my Joyce Chen scissors -- perfect for stencil-cutting because they're sharp and have short blades.  

To make today's posted artwork, I used two of these altered stencils together:

I'm not at liberty to describe the technique that I used to start this painting, since it was shown on a video that's included in the June 2015 Stencil-of-the-Month package for StencilGirls' StencilClub members.  It can be back-ordered; directions are here. 

But that process was only the start of this particular acrylic painting, done on 12" x 9" gallery-wrap canvas. 

After that first step, I used a variety of sizes of flat-tipped brushes to add yellow highlights in emphasizing areas of the design.  I also added a number of layers of zinc white acrylic paint to mute areas of lesser interest.  And I used a nearly-empty bottle of this paint to add a spatter in the lower middle area.

New Combo Prints with New (and Old) Stencils!

Time again for some prints made with more than one stencil.  All of today's prints were made with one or more of my brand-new 6" x 6" StencilGirl stencils.  Some of them were made in combination with older stencils of my design.

Above:  Okay, I lied.  This first image is not an actual print.  It's one paint-stained stencil laid atop another.  On the bottom:  Ski Lift Works.  On the top:  Sassy Spray.

Now, for the real prints --

Above:  The top print was made with Ski Lift Works, with yellow paint.  The bottom layer (blue, green and white) was made with a 8"-round Gelli Plate and my 9" x 12" Facets Stencil.

Above:  The top (yellow) layer was made with Sassy Spray.  The underneath layer was made with (top, right) one of my  stencils, which come in two sizes, 6" x 6" and 4" x 4".  The lower left print was made with my 4" x 4" Fern Fronds Silhouette stencil.  

Above:  The bottom layer (green and white) was made with a 8"-round Gelli Plate and my 9" x 12" Facets Stencil.  The top layer (left side) was made with my 6"x 6" stencil Pavilion Shadows.  The right side of the top (yellow) layer was made with the same stencil, flipped over while the paint was still wet, and pressed to the paper in the way a rubber stamp is used. 

Above:  This two-layer print was made on a white sheet of "blueprint" paper.  The bottom print, made with red paint, was created using my stencil Ski Lift Works.  The top print (yellow) was made with Ornamental Iron Curls .

SASSY SPRAY!

In today's post, one of my four new 6" x 6" stencils, Sassy Spray, stars in the lead role ...

Above:  The "supporting actor" in this print is Pavilion Shadows, which was used with green paint as the first layer on this piece.

Above:  Again, the "supporting actor" in this print is Pavilion Shadows, which was used with orange paint as the first layer on this piece.

Above and below:  These two pieces, using Sassy Spray, were printed over older prints.

Today's final image, directly above, was printed with Sassy Spray over an earlier print, which had been made with my 9"x12" stencil Mimosa.

Curl up with a Good Stencil ...

Ornamental Iron Curls, one of my four stencils released May 4, has found its way into many of my recent art prints.  It turned out to be a versatile stencil, as shown below:

 

Above:  This print, with green heavy-body acrylic paint, was made on textured foil-laminated paper which had been previously printed (in the upper left corner.)

Above:  this print was done on watercolor paper coated with orange acrylic paints.  It was the original print forming the basis for one of the multi-layered pieces in yesterday's post.

Above:  this print was made over the photo of an old calendar page.

Above:  this print was made with yellow heavy-body acrylic paint, on a substrate that had been previously streaked with red, blue and purple paints.

Above:  this print was made over an older print.  The original substrate had been the photo from an old calendar page.

SK LIFT WORKS 6" X 6" Stencil

Today's post again highlights Ski Lift Works, one of my four 6" x 6" stencils released May 4.
